what is up with people quote casting responses that should be replies i will not answer a question in a quote cast that should be a reply, just reply to my cast so i don't have to follow a million more conversations in different threads it's already hard enough 😭 😭 😭

because replying to posts normally gets very little visibility. solo posting is like posting into the void for the most part anyway.

replying to get visibility instead of genuinely trying to converse/connect with that person is not my vibe 🙅‍♀️

I feel like on other platforms if I reply the visibility is maybe a bit better so quote-replying isn't as necessary. It's probably just a tuning thing as well as a cultural thing with people trying to experiment on what works best to get visibility.

yeah i guess my gripe is that visibility shouldn't be your main focus - authenticity comes through so strong, you know it when you see it i.e. if you engage authentically and you have a few good back and forths with others plus your content is good enough, people will follow you back and interact with your content more hacking the algo by quote casting folks and getting them to engage on your "own" root casts = not authentic = less conversation, follows, engagement overall i'd bet

The predicament is that without visibility other people won't see anything. I don't really like it much and don't really have any interest in hacking the algo (if I did I would post a lot more). So in order to even build an initial following quote replying works well and it's also worth doing if you have something that's valuable to say - otherwise if people visit your profile there's not much there.

a feed filled with tons of quote replies a day versus a feed with one good cast a day - which sounds like a person you'd want to follow more? because the type of content they cast is the type of content you'll see in your feed from them.

And for me btw I would much rather focus on using channels but farcaster hasn't designed very well for them and they're not considered a priority. I've seen more than a few people say even if they use channels it is like shouting into the voice. Someone is making a client that is channel focused though.

I generally follow based on the content itself rather than the method (quotes vs reply doesn't make a difference, except replies aren't surfaced very often so I'm less likely to see them in the first place - that even applies to replies that are more interesting than the original post)
