I tied my shoes too tight during a 🏃♀️ race last year, and as a result lost a toenail a few weeks ago Even though it wasn’t painful at any point I lost my mind when it first happened and was late to a party as I dawdled around my apartment freaking out about being able to touch the soft skin under the nail. I carefully protected it (from what I don’t even know). But now that it’s been gone awhile I don’t care anymore and it’s kind of fascinating. When you lose a nail an almost shadow nail forms. The skin changes. I am watching myself heal from an injury I have never experienced before. Is this how people who break a bone for the first time feel? Will probably be another 6 months before I have anything resembling a nail there.

I’ve lost several toenails from soccer, running with too tight shoes, and also opening a door over my foot 🥴 they’ll grow back but it’s weird af to see your little toe sausage all naked and soft without a nail

My biggest learning from posting about this is that almost everyone has lost a nail on hand or foot at one point and I didn’t realize how common it was cause it’s weird and gross so no one ever volunteers it and we never talk about it 😝
