common misconception and marketing material. L2 doesn't "derive security" of L1, the foreign asset bridged from the L1 is provided with safe guards that allow it to exit via the bridge on the L1.

in practise these L2s function more like territories, where they have to maintain good socio-economic commitments and behaviour to remain relevant and supported.

these commitments are what make the foreign assets(Ether or anything bridged from L1), feel secure, but it's not a given, thus the embassy i.e. L1 bridge

this is like americans being able to evacuate via the US embassy in a foreign land when said land is compromised.

the foreign land doesn't "derive security" from the US, the US citizens do by virtue of the US embassy(and whatever provisions like dedicated evac transport).
