what is happening society and why is everyone experiencing an existential crisis? it seems like the last couple of years has been fraught with tension after tension the catholic church scandal, the me too movement, blm, stop asian hate, trump, trans politics etc etc but why?

actively working on a thesis about how the internet has accelerated cultural globalization leading to context collapse, and the result is that interpersonal meaning is dead in the water we don't know each other anymore we only know everything else so we fight with facts instead of connecting with wonder

i can’t wait to read this surely cultural globalization would be a good thing? having monocultures would mean we would all get on and agree on a lot, no? can you explain your thesis a bit more pls 🙃

re: globalized culture agreement is not actually what improvements us—conflict is. e.g. immigrants are what makes America great i'm also of the opinion that globalized culture is a weapon of imperialism (see: Hollywood propaganda that helps sell American products overseas)

so the idea is that the internet/social media has created an environment where we don't know the audience we're broadcasting to, and we don't know the people we're talking to either (this is context "collapse") the lack of context shows up in a lot of ways: how we argue, how we learn, who we listen to, and on and on
