what is happening society and why is everyone experiencing an existential crisis? it seems like the last couple of years has been fraught with tension after tension the catholic church scandal, the me too movement, blm, stop asian hate, trump, trans politics etc etc but why?

actively working on a thesis about how the internet has accelerated cultural globalization leading to context collapse, and the result is that interpersonal meaning is dead in the water we don't know each other anymore we only know everything else so we fight with facts instead of connecting with wonder

so the idea is that the internet/social media has created an environment where we don't know the audience we're broadcasting to, and we don't know the people we're talking to either (this is context "collapse") the lack of context shows up in a lot of ways: how we argue, how we learn, who we listen to, and on and on

importantly, context is the basis of all relationshipsâwe don't become friends until we know a certain amount about someone but we're navigating an environment where context development is severely hindered, so our relationship skills are also suffering (see: the rise of social anxiety and parasocial relationships)
