genuine question: but what if the internet is down? like what if there is no connectivity, then you can't technically be "onchain" right? i think about this more than i want to admit

I had considered, before realizing I had a schedule conflict, applying as a speaker at ETHDenver this year and talking about underlying infrastructure, censorship, and the issues of decentralized technology over centralized infrastructure.

If we as a world ever go to full out war of the level we did in WWII and WWIII, one of the first moves of most nations no matter how free will be to isolate their segment of the Internet, parallel to the mail censorship in those wars. The same has happened on smaller scales in various countries fairly recently.

And of course there’s the lower scale of infrastructure failures or cyber attacks, or intensional censorship in peace time in some countries. Decentralised technologies are vulnerable to the centralisation of the underlying technologies.
