cynicism ≈ the reality of politics in the US

I feel like the key to avoiding grifters in both politics and crypto is calibrating the right amount of cynicism. 

Too much can actually be worse than too little: Scammers and corrupt politicians want you to think that everything is a scam, and all politics is corrupt (but they will help you come out on top...)

It’s easier to see from outside. Americans are so enveloped in their broken neo-liberalism with very very right wing parties that they can’t see they have a dystopian and frankly pathetic failure of a democracy. Not all countries face this. Those with more parties, less consolidation of power, are far less cynical
