Idk about protecting, more like pointing out the blame isn't all on Mexico. The US weapons industry is part of the problem along with the US prison system and drug consumption demand.

In their defense, there's a long history of dead politicians when it comes to the cartel in Mexico.

I don't think they have a choice here.
