I would never sell my soul for the sake of my “career trajectory”

To each their own. plenty of good people who used the job as a way to go on to accomplish good meaningful things. “Sell my soul” is histrionic imo

I worked in consulting for 2 years. Fred Ehrsam worked in banking.

I agree that everyone forges their own path. I would never trade in my time and effort for a low ROI.

Personally, I just can’t visualize positive impact I’ll bring to the world through consulting or investment banking.

What would Napoleon, the Founding Fathers, or even Elon say about this?

I’m in that boat. Been a management consultant for 23 years. It’s allowed me to work in dozens of countries and multiple industries. It’s exposed me to many colleagues and clients far smarter than me. It’s rarely dull. And, it’s lucrative past the initial grind. I don’t feel like I’ve sold my soul.
