forums! do u still use any forums regularly? i used to visit a bunch of art, music, and other forums but not much anymore ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

i feel like channels here are trying to reach something like this but imo wc channels are missing one crucial feature for this: chrono reply bumping as immediate visual feedback to let u know a conversation is happening within a channel cast (⌒_⌒;)

I don’t think we’ll ever get there with current cast storage model. I looked for a reply chain of mine the other day and while I found my responses, the person I talked to let their casts expire ;_;

Use open source forum software and permissionlessly use the FIDs for social graph. Not everything needs to be on Hubs. :)

Yeah but you can be clever to bootstrap.

1. Use a Paragraph style mini-app for the longer form forum posts to read in feed

2. Use replies (similar to what Paragraph does) for quick answers (or cast threads for longer answers). Mirror the content from the casts into your forum software so it doesn't get deleted.

I think it's easy to say the protocol design limits X, but getting creative often can solve it.

Agreed, there's tons of unexplored uses of the social graph alone!

But I'd argue in this context the real value prop of Farcaster (currently) isn't the social graph but the conversational liquidity.

Once the network matures, communities won’t be so sparse and can easily bootstrap into offshoots like forums.
