1/2 Well hands down the best book about it is "Romance of the Three Kingdoms" -- widely considered on par with Shakespeare, it's the seminal classic on the period. Film adaptations here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_media_adaptations_of_Romance_of_the_Three_Kingdoms

Although the 2008 two-part movie Red Cliff ain’t bad. Doesn’t cover the whole period/book but it is one of the best big budget set-pieces.

Agree with the 1994 TV version. Newer adaptations of Chinese classics really dumb down for the lowest common denominator. Similarly, the 1987 version of Dream of Red Chambers and the 1986 version of Westward Journey still can’t be surpassed.
