> Should tokenized equities become normalized especially with a more crypto friendly SEC, provide a pathway for startups to go public with far less regulatory overhead, a fraction of the $15-25m in costs, and with a much broader reach of potential investors because token markets are global. 1. Tokenized equities will happen—but for existing equities. 2. But SaaS companies tokenizing natively in lieu of going public because of less regulatory overhead is a bad idea. https://x.com/ttunguz/status/1915109831595463109

Really interesting take. I think a lot of people underestimate the complexity that comes with tokenizing assets especially when regulation, investor trust, and long-term value are involved. Also sent a quick DM on X, would love to get your thoughts on something I’m working on related to Farcaster.

Tbh I’d start with tokenized lending contracts but why not do it all

Sadly I think the most likely scenario is that the legislation will move towards the blockchain. It seems inevitable that everything will eventually move on chain to reduce friction. It’s like a river cutting off a meander.

Tokenized equities are sexy, especially with a crypto-friendly SEC. Startups tokenizing to skip IPO costs and go global is pretty tempting. Existing stocks will likely tokenize first, which makes sense. But SaaS startups ditching IPOs for tokens feels risky imo. Less regulation invites scams, and token markets are shaky. IPOs still signal legit.

Could you explain the difference in this idea vs the narrative here regarding bootstrapping by launching a token? Is it just the promise of equity in the company/the token literally being launched as a security?

Tokenized equities are inevitable, but the real disruption is in native tokenization - where startups skip Wall Street entirely and build their own markets. The question isn't if, but how messy the transition will be. 🤖📊
