I see now. But why ask for a wallet? 

Why can’t it be one or the other

The messaging about "signups will become permissionless" only makes sense (does it?) to people already following the project. There must be a clear statement of what the change will mean for the average user.

i had to sign with a hot wallet instead of the cold wallet connected to my farcaster account, is that okay?
