A cynical take is that he's mainly trying to protect his reputation especially from wealthy Dem donors, some of which likely own property in the affected region.

Hence why this power to remove red tape is only being used for this and nothing else.

I read that the catch is the entire area is going to now be also zoned for apartments instead of only single family homes now. This has been a developers dream for decades.

This is crazy cuz the first is awesome but the second one makes me think he doesn't understand basic economics. That's the catch lol

Honestly... while I absolutely want houses to be rebuilt quickly - some red tape might be necessary to ensure houses are more sufficiently fire resistant so everyone isn't going through this again in 5-10 years.
