How soon before the NPCs in open world games are hooked up to GPT and can converse with you in character based on spoken audio from the player via a headset?

And then assume procedural generation like No Man’s Sky + Midjourney level graphics… Get lost in an infinite Hyrule, San Andreas, Tamriel, Azeroth with infinite storylines and side quests

There’s a preview of this already. See for example this TikTok channel, which posts AI visualizations. “What if Ancient Greece never fell?” https://vt.tiktok.com/ZS8Doreuf/ https://i.imgur.com/7vvenx5.jpg

The part I’m excited about is the possibility of both shared Worldbuilding (procedurally generated but cross-player consistent) and private experience (like a simulator, players can shape a world based on consistently interacting with the AI in a specific way,,, eg going all the way “good” or “evil”)

I like the pure spoken audio idea even better. It’d be a lot like books, in the sense that it would help train imagination.

Would love to see early versions of this in the MMO Riot games is building but don’t see them implementing anything like this yet as they are known for copying what works and making it more accessible.
