the twitter that ppl knew is dying, a KPI compliant one is arising are discussions of substance happening on the platform or in group chats? lulu's recent tweets would seem to indicate the latter

A historic news event happened this weekend. Where did people go to get information about it?

twitter is extremely righty-leaning / trump supportive now, so yes it's an indicator of success but for a particular filter bubble and not 'is twitter succeeding generally'

and the replies indicate some ppl who are not in that filter bubble went to other sources! contrast that with twitter once being *the* town square

I came here, sir 😅 and,, local news... just opened X to watch a conspiracy video-theory about it because someone sent me it.. x is not dying just twitter has being destroyed.. the level of "happyness" decreased, I think more people would answer Yes to the question: are you willing to leave x? but they need to use it, it is like some kinda love/hate, and they need to be there because everyone is there.. but this could change, I think that sentiment is real.. but.. yeah, it is not really dying.. there are not group of people leaving it daily.. that's pretty obvious..

Downstream of where the quality discourse is happening and a lagging indicator of future success. There’s no disputing twitter is the king but the more interesting question is will it continue to be. Especially as it leans into debate as a metric for discourse. But if they incentivize for it then it might lead to arguments for the sake of arguing which would be lower quality discourse sort of like empty calories. Or it might not. But that’s the real leading indicator and I’m curious what a good metric might be of quality discourse. Some mix of length of messages per thread and length of thread. Or presence of “domain experts” in the thread. Measuring this and optimizing for it wins you the next decade at least I think.
