on today's Farcaster dev call @dwr.eth repeatedly stated that the #1 priority is to improve the quality of content on the network I think he's wrong. Let me tell you why. (disclosure: I told Dan i was going to write this. i hope it spurs some debate) the #1 most important priority is for Farcaster to become more onchain "quality content" already exists in other places and there's no reason or benefit for it to come to Farcaster unless there's some uniquely onchain elements that vastly improve it and tbh most of the content that gets lots of engagement on CT is polarizing debates that the FC community hates the world doesn't need another place to yap about the NBA; it does need better ways to wager, play fantasy games, get access to bts content the world doesn't need another place to yap about what you cooked; the world does need more ways for foodies to get rewarded for sharing great recipes the way to win is by using onchain to change the paradigm and lure people in with the benefits as they emerge

What will drive retained daily active users if not for quality content? Examples of "only on Farcaster" that exists today that is driving retention right now? Sign ups?

retention right now is driven by (1) being a cozy corner for onchain builders: -- which enables them to connect to get work done, collaborate, advance, promote, hire, gain product trials and adoption frames enabled distribution, product trial unlike anything before it (2) being a curious place for onchain degens to try to make a buck

i think jason is right in terms of chasing new paradigms with already established legos we have, to attract people to take advantage of, play with, build quality content instead of just porting other quality content here frames is a great example of "only on farcaster" – spiked adoption but not sure if it helps retention default connected wallets is also great example of "only on farcaster"Β  so probably if we are able to create more identity x commerce games, we attract quality people to take leverage of these, and then they bring masses

Quality content is a no brainer, hard to argue with that. But, making Farcaster more onchain-y will give people a reason to post here. A good meme is a good meme, whether it's on X or Farcaster. How we interact with it should change.

I signed up for warpcast because a base meme token I was following could only be minted on warpcast. I stayed for the degen. Now a lot of people that stayed for the same reasons are getting pretty fed up with the unclear methods of losing or gaining a badge. While seeing accounts with Zero activity gain one. I guess it depends on what audience you want to attract but a pretty easy win is encouraging exclusive content to onboard specific crypto communities and then encouraging current users to provide a road map for them to gain a badge. The road map is very unclear right now

What about merging both ideas? Farcaster could host an annual FarOscars event, featuring categories that would boost content creation. Categories could include Best Channel, Most Active Channel, Best Cast, Best Frame, Best Builder, Best Meme, Best Nonsense Cast, Best Narrowcast, Best Onboarding, etc.

I think the incentives that FC makes possible creates a new type of content experience. Some misc. thoughts and anecdotes... - My family loves sports, but they would really get into it when there was a family betting pool going on. FC can do this natively. - I joined FC in early April after seeing degen was listed on Bankless (which I had just signed up for to learn more about web3). Completely crypto naive. No social media ever stuck and somehow I'm still here a few months later. - On my second day or so, @frag.eth tipped me handsomely after I registered an ens and told him about it. This was my first wtf-something-interesting-is-going-on-here moment. - A couple of days later, @ahn.eth and @tombornal tipped me for posting pics of my mile run attempts. Virtuous circle created. - I saw @bountycaster and thought it had the seed of something special, so I wrote up some design feedback. @linda gave me a degen tip for that. - My first frame attempt got about 15k in degen tips πŸ‘€
