Manufactured scarcity, drops, exclusives, etc The sample sales can be worth it, ridiculous pricing sometimes, and only there bc that's where the designers are.

It’s sucker self sorting, much like an analog Nigerian prince spam email. If they’re dumb enough to wait in line, they’re dumb enough to convince themselves it was worth it and not to leave empty handed. High end retail does so to control shoplifting. Truly, nothing in NY that involves a line is worthwhile. If you aren’t there before influencers discover it, or can’t make a reservation then I’m confident you can pass on it.

if it's anything like nightlife it's to give an illusion of exclusivity and to get people talking about it similar psychology played out with limited edition NFTs once you get inside it's never as crowded as you expect

Which is it? 1) So store owners can keep an eye on customers to make sure they aren't stealing 2) To make it feel exclusive and trendy 3) To better serve customers 4) Fear of people due to COVID trauma 5) All of the above

it’s a hype thing. However, as a native New Yorker, it’s the best feeling to walk right past it 😂
