Phantom is a delightful product I love the little details like how the ghost is sleeping when the wallet is locked, and then startles awake when you begin typing your password Crypto products either feel incredibly complex or too spartan. Products that add human embellishments like this stand out so much!

Disagree, table stakes for software products is high in 2025 -- ignoring beauty bc of opportunity cost is too rational Not everyone gets the Craigslist pass

You’ll make something beautiful but run out of time. Pareto optimal is speed of shipping and functionality. Can’t think of one successful at-scale consumer app that was delightful early on. Linear, Notion different because enterprise.

Agree, but gotta be on the efficient frontier -- you *can* afford beauty Some counterpoints: - Slack (enterprise, but B2C gtm) - Snapchat - Cash App

Enterprise apps that appeal on consumer design is a strategy but it's not a consumer app (monetization through attention). Linear, Notion, etc. Cash App was a public company that funded an internal team for years with large losses Snapchat early versions were pretty basic. disappearing images novelty was the growth driver.

1. Fair! 2. Different argument -- we can haggle about what level of capitalization is needed before this becomes a priority (and also the negative optics of being well capitalized without it) 3. Fair, but delight comes in many forms. Initial point was that UI is a common route, but need *some* way to make the user feel joy
