"Channels are walled gardens" 1. Everyone can read and reply to channel casts 2. Most people appear above the fold when replying 3. The cast data is on the protocol, you're able to build a client or another experience with it that you think is better 4. There are plenty of channels experimenting with token and NFT gating. 5. I'll repeat: *there is no distribution boost to casting in a channel*. It's strictly if you want to take the time to start building relationships in that community (which you can start today by replying to any cast in the channel). 6. A generic topic / hashtag like #ai, #food, #founders is not a community. It's an attempt at boosting distribution. And we're specifically not boosting distribution. So casting in your home feed (to your followers) will get you the same distribution to people who already choose to follow you.

I assumed my feed would also show posts outside of my circle based on the channels I follow. if there’s no distribution boost when posting in a channel, then this is not the case. so what’s the point of following channels? how would my experience change if I didn’t follow any?

Does a cast in channels appear on the main feed as much as casting in no channel?

The takocast app is building a different version of the channel. It still supports everyone to post content in it, but adds a lot of effective modules for managing channel content.
