I don’t get the meme ”Project X is launching a token so the VCs can get liquidity”. Yes, a token provides liquidity eventually but: 1. Most teams and investors have a lock up. So by definition airdrop recipients are getting liquidity far before the team or investors. 2. No one is forcing you to buy the asset. If you truly believe it’s a liquidity “scam” don’t participate. And if you get an airdrop, sell immediately. 3. The straw man that “other retail will get tricked into buying it” is intellectually dishonest. For the vast majority of cases, the people who lose money trading a token are speculators who know the rules of the game. It’s 2025, not 2017.

The #2 mindset needs to be more widely used in crypto. Just don't participate. Get on with your life. But people see projects on their feed / VCs & KOLs shilling it and they get angry bc crypto is PVP right now without new entrants.

yeah I think when these views are expressed, it’s more about the frustration caused by retail’s inability to participate in these private rounds.

Not to go all Gensler on everyone, but if a token is being launched to provide liquidity, isn't that literally just admitting to selling unregistered securities? I've launched a ton of tokens, and even some Bitcoin forks before ERC-20 was a thing, but it was never because I was trying to raise funds. That's just crime🤷

mostly agreed except otc deals on locked up tokens provide near-instant liq and market makers love a good carry trade.

1. They sell on OTC their allo or short their locked token size during the exit pump. 2. True, but some teams do sophisticated circus ceremonies to deceive ppl with assimiteric information 3. I see where you are coming from. I am not a trader and am into stables for that precise reason. but still you can't justify with that market manipulations, plain deception, setting wrong expectations from teams etc. I am a bit sleepy but I really disagree with you on this one so had to comment

Agree. $DEGEN VCs are still holding, most airdrop 1 recipients sold out. Retail = paperhands. Use lockup mechanism like $AERO did or pick solid VCs.

Too many are used to big brother holding their hand and securing the field. Centralized entities have held the reigns for far too long. Freedom of everything means they have to do something either 1, they don't know how to or 2, they aren't aware of (dyor).

The real twist is that retail has way more liquidity and optionality than early investors, and they still complain

Exactly. By 2025, crypto Darwinism ensures only those who understand the game survive. Not every token needs mooning to find its true believers - even stablecoins have their tribe. Risk management is the new alpha.

Also the Airdrop threadoors carry a lot of the guilt for Airdrop fud where the protocol try to reward everyone, and everyone gets peuntus and then fud the protocol instead of directing their anger towards the Airdrop threadoors who ran with “do 100tx and generate 10K volume for a 10k airdrop”

I think the mindset of “Make your community rich” makes a strong and sticky airdrop. Also means less people get the airdrop which is less likely to dump.
