looking at different web3 social apps right now its easy to understand that most usage is still driven by speculation/expected financial upside some apps that build truly novel experiences get little traction because they propose little price action but whenever we're past this phase, chances are that the trend will be reversed. at that point there'll be no difference between 'web3 social' and all other social apps. and providing superior content and novel experiences will be the only way

if an app can have all the regular social stuff PLUS the financial stuff, why would the one with only regular stuff take over in your view?

because i dont think i value money when it comes to close friendship, the same way i don’t value how many likes they get. now like everyone i do appreciate someone’s status in society based on likes and wealth. but it’s another kind of use case. it’s like the social media vs social network divide. in social media you consume information about other ppl, in social networking you build relationships now this makes me think, apps that merge both will probably outcompete apps that don’t. it’s like instagram vs. be real. i think be real’s concept is more noble but it’s just a toy compared to instagram which has significantly changed the way we socialize

yea, saying it's overinflated is fair (tho, it's the side that's never been explored in any web2 apps so we're kind of at the frontier of exploration which makes it hard to not keep exploring) as for not caring about money or likes because the context is "close friends".... idk that is necessarily the context. it's a part of it.. but you can't really have that many close friends so it doesn't scale as a use case for apps to build for so an app that can grow and sustain itself in a hyper-competitive attention economy like this feels like one that may have to intelligently bring together these 3 aspects: social network, social media, social finance :)
