It is worrisome. Any social media needs the next gen to like it if it wants sustainability. I think it mainly has something to do with money being an issue for people <25 years of age.

trying to understand this: is it that farcaster & crypto are too expensive?

Younger people have lesser experience and less value to add to a social media platform which is as value driven as this. The tipping mechanism was great for bringing people who don't necessarily have a lot of skills in this realm and then they could start monetising whatever their skills were.

However, with the end (or pause, atleast) of the tipping meta, people aren't as easy to convince to switch to a platform which is primarily about crypto. We need much much more /non-crypto-stuff to bring in a major audience that we're not catering to rn.

There's also the controversial power badge. People who don't have it are essentially invisible to the system. If I came in now and had to struggle as much as I see the recent entrants, probably wouldn't have persisted. I was lucky that I had the OG power users who interacted with me and that got me a badge in 15 days.

This is probably the biggest area we can really do something about it: more non crypto stuff, more culture, less LinkedIn + Silicon Valley vibes
