I'm starting to use less social media, or to at least be more intentional in how I use it. I used to justify heavy social media use as something of utility to me as a journalist, but given the increasingly chaotic nature of the information environment, algorithmic manipulation of newsfeeds, and suppression of links, this is becoming harder to justify. Social media is devolving away from being something more like a newswire, into being mere "posting" of the style of early internet message boards, and places like 4Chan and Reddit. I'm only going to use social media to share and collect news from professional sources and individuals, as well as to connect with communities that are generally constructive and positive rather than conflict-seeking or trapped in pointless circular debates. I can consider Farcaster to be a positive community, which also happens to teach me things that I don't otherwise know about technology, and in particular cryptocurrency and blockchain.

Do you think we’re hitting post-social media? Where value resides outside these common communities and in new more close(d) networks?
