Most graduates from academic centers see a few cases of pathology in a year. A state school or even community graduate sees the same amount in a few days. You want a physician who’s seen 1000s of each case so they can get you home without complications, and spot the outlier issues early and fix them. Ie. Would you prefer your general PP neurosurgeon to do the complex skull base resection, or the Hopkins fellowship trained skull base surgeon?

Not sure I entirely agree. For run of the mill diseases, someone who trained at a small/non-academic may be more efficient. But for more complex pathology, the breadth narrow subspecialists at an ivory tower institution cannot be understated.
