Last week, we got a lot of good feedback from people happy with / excited about the changes. See below. Now I want to highlight what's still not working for people.

Channels should be open by default. If a moderator wants to make people have to join, then the current system seems okay. But that should be an option, not a requirement. Imagine being a new user here and coming and you can't even post anywhere. Why would you stay?

Clearing up a few misconceptions

1. Casting in your home feed gives you the same distribution as casting in a channel.

2. Everyone can read and reply to casts in channels

3. Most people will appear above the fold with a reply.

4. We changed the way channels work to shift them from hashtags to communities.

5. If you’re annoyed by the changes, just cast in your home feed. You’re not missing out on distribution or discovery casting in a channel.

3. The cast data is on the protocol, you're able to build a client or another experience with it that you think is better

4. There are plenty of channels experimenting with token and NFT gating.

5. I'll repeat: *there is no distribution boost to casting in a channel*. It's strictly if you want to take the time to start building relationships in that community (which you can start today by replying to any cast in the channel).

6. A generic topic / hashtag like #ai, #food, #founders is not a community. It's an attempt at boosting distribution. And we're specifically not boosting distribution. So casting in your home feed (to your followers) will get you the same distribution to people who already choose to follow you.

New users didn't get any significant boost from casting in channels. We hoped that would work, but it never did in practice. See below.

But it is very frustrating to not be able to post in a channel and while waiting to jump through whatever hoop you just move on. On the other side, as a channel mod it sucks having to get DMs from people who want to join.
