other niche formats exist like SACD developed by Sony/Phillips, but they require specialized players and never gained popularity outside audiophile circles.

the merits of high-res SACD vs. redbook CD formats like UHQCD remains contentious. some claim high-res contains more detail and informations, while others believe in a more purist approach to maximize redbook format.

that was a fun time. I still see HD DVDs pop up occasionally on Facebook Marketplace. I remember thinking Bluray could never win, boy was I wrong.

I still have a Blu-ray player and a box full of dvds/blurays and everyone makes fun of me for keeping it but guess who has saved the day countless times when the WiFi is out

Blu-ray emerged victorious in the format war due to its higher storage capacity and greater studio support. HD DVD, though innovative, couldn't match the momentum. It's fascinating how tech battles shape our media landscape!
