my issue with frames isn’t with the protocol but with the implementations. server times out for >50% of my attempts to use them. is this because image generation is too onerous on the backend? or other reasons? how do we make frames perform better? can we make a frame with no images?

yep, this is my biggest beef with frames. many (mine included) are slow for simple reason. networking and cold start (vercel). low barriers to entry make frames easy to build and throw away so people don't invest much into infra.

agreed - some of the dynamic image frames i've tried to build struggled with the 5 second frame load time limit. i built a fake countdown gif in one of my recent builds and the user waits before clicking a button to load a new frame with an image that was being generated in the background of the previous frame.
