In October 2024, the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation ( FBI ) conducted Operation Token Mirror [ 3 ] , creating a fake token, NexFundAI, to catch criminals who were committing fraud. The operation uncovered a $25 million dollar pull-up-and-shipping scheme in which traders manipulated the trading volume and price of tokens to attract unsuspecting investors. Once the price rose, the masterminds sold their holdings, causing the price to plummet. Ultimately, 18 manipulators were charged with market manipulation.

Selling high is one of the oldest forms of market manipulation, which involves artificially inflating the price of an asset through coordinated buying (selling high) and then selling it off after the price has risen (selling out). This type of behavior is usually initiated by a group of traders or social media KOLs who hype up low liquidity tokens in private chat groups or on social media to entice retail investors to buy. Once the price rises, the manipulators sell off their holdings, leaving later investors to pick up the slack and take the losses.

Real-world asset (RWA) tokenization is set to explode over the next five years, with assets under management potentially exceeding $600 billion by 2030, according to a new research paper from a major traditional financial institution. The Boston Consulting Group, a global consulting firm, called RWA tokenization “the third revolution in asset management” in an October 29 paper.

On October 30th, IoTeX and OKX Wallet announced the launch of the DePIN Super Ecosystem Season, a $10 million joint incentive campaign by IoTeX, the DePIN modularization platform, aggregating dozens of DePIN and DeFi projects. This is the largest number of participating projects and the largest amount of incentives in the DePIN field, which will bring a new wave of eco-expansion of IoTeX and growth of DePIN projects. Perhaps as a result of this news, IOTX rose more than 5% in 24 hours, and its market capitalization now stands at $397 million.
