the one thing disconcerting about that table is it looks like measured times are slightly superlinear. why does a 40m-gas block take more than 4/3 of a 30m-gas block to process?

Then we're assuming that Besu will be used by majority of the chain?

so on a worst-case attack block, the 85% running Geth are totally fine, and the 4% running Besu are still fine (but cutting it closer?)

sending those is expensive, and the attacker gains nothing.

my takeaways from that table: 1. 40m gas seems fine, 2. small clients need perf improvements, 3. Reth will rip

I’m not an engineer, so I can’t comment on that but the answer is no from what i see

Speeding up clients seems like a tractable problem though?

These numbers are way wrong. Besu does that test on 40Mgas in 100ms on an M1 mac.
