✋ Never owned it, kind of understand it, unclear on why it's better than a good 401k or S&P fund.

doesn't replace 401k or SP500. "cryptocurrency" comes in many shapes & sizes, from digital dollars (which just use crypto as infrastructure for transfers) to new (sometimes absurd) currencies like Bitcoin, Dogecoin, etc opens up new things like: 1. instant peer to peer payments: send dollars worldwide instantly with negligible fees. already having large impact in remittance corridors. 2. self-custody funds: not so important in US, but in low-trust or failed states, one can ensure that govt/banks cannot seize funds or debank them 3. "programmable" money: much easier to build apps that move value. opens up much more experimentation in how artists can sell IP, how me lend/exchange money, and more

It’s not really about being better Imagine all of the cool concerts ticket stubs, baseball cards, and other nostalgic things you might have sitting in a box somewhere Having a wallet and collecting neat little momentos, participation stubs, artworks, etc makes it a little easier to keep up with everything

It’s better for some investors and not for others, depending on your risk preference, time preference, and amount of faith you have in the traditional financial system (even as a hedge/how many of your eggs you want to put in one basket vs another)

been in space for >10 years. few things I find most valuable about crypto: 1. self custody is an important option to maintain individual freedom in a world where technology enables individuals in power to shut down wide swaths of population financials with a single button. its not for everyone, but the *option* is important to maintain freedom for all. 2. defi - programmable money on transparent, neutral blockchains will bring a new level of fairness, transparency, and efficiency to the financial world. Strictly better financial products for billions of people around the world, built by fewer engineers. 3. stablecoins - at @reserve we've been helping people around the world use stablecoins for >5 years. there is nothing like a hyperinflationary local currency to viscerally understand the value of stablecoins on permissionless blockchains. again, giving people access to strictly better financial products around the world.

You don't actually own stocks or a 401k and you have to ask permission to withdraw it or trade it. This is fine, until it isn't.

@askgina.eth can you give some reasons why crypto might be a good alternative to a 401k or investing in the S&P500? Thanks Gina
