Slightly by luck. when I was in Vietnam, I looked up reviews of tattoo studios. I gravitated towards a studio, my friend personally recommended. After that, I went through all the artists and decided which artist I felt good do this particular type of work the best

I think all those are good points. The most important being quality and thought behind a post even if you are promoting your own stuff from time to time. Letting people know why it’s important to you and engaging the community feels authentic and adds value.
