Is the goal of environmentalism to maximize the health of the environment, or to maximize the health of the environment experienced by the average person? (I think both are valid goals, but they can lead to very different conclusions) https://x.com/TheGattoniCelli/status/1796949964804747335

It's all signaling. Stated preference: I live in a city to reduce my carbon footprint Revealed preference: if I had a private jet I would use it every weekend without hesitation

Sure but I'm guessing you also don't live in climates where it's 30'+ outside, and if everyone used a private jet every weekend that's what the whole world would be 😀

https://chatgpt.com/share/d89d57f3-89ae-4fab-8127-e27e76a258e9 (ok fine this is unrealistic because you'll run out of fossil fuels long before you get to that point; looks like you can only get to ~1500 ppm with actually-existing fossil fuels, but that's still quite bad for both climate and even human health)

Ooh didn't know ChatGPT could do that, cool. I know I'm just trolling the OP...I've always been a bit of a YIMBY skeptic because it's the monoculture on Twitter. But even for YIMBY, it's a bit off brand since they are usually pillorying suburbs not rural areas.

That being said, everything I see indicates the wealth (read: consumption) of the population is >>> than density. If we took rich ppl in Great Neck scrapped their SUVs & put them in Manhattan, they'd still be taking Uber, running their ACs, eating meat, and buying crap from Temu delivered via bunker oil cargo ships.
