Craigslist is a company that inspires me a lot - built a public good that creates value connecting users in p2p marketplaces with no take rate. Hmm, (not that this is is the main point of your post) but I'd lightly push back on calling them a 'public good'. Not open source, incredibly high level of fraud (apartment rental scams), and they make all their money on real estate listings (no different than airbnb). Public good is more like Linux or Jonas Salk.

I don't think all of Craigslist is a public good but that their p2p marketplaces w/o take rates or posting fees are. I think something can be a public good w/o being open source as long as it meets the non-excludable and non-rivalrous criteria (but as we've seen with retropgf lots of people have different definitions)
