My two cents on complaints about Warpcast being the dominant client for a decentralized protocol: Bet that most of the complainers use Coinbase. Or Uniswap. In a decentralized world, the winning clients are first among equals, as voted on by users. If you don't like Warpcast being the A+ client, build a better one.

Uniswap is open source for both UI and protocols, you compare some DEFI/CEX with a social protocol? Bluesky has its main client open-source. Mastodon the same Lens the same Tell me how many social protocols do you know where the same team runs the main client and the protocol? Do we expect Meta Threads to become more decentralized than the FC ecosystem? Also never used Coinbase to swap even a dolar and I survived a few years in crypto without Coinbase. Like I said who stands to lose, if WC is opensource? We want a better ecosystem or not?

It's fundamentally a philosophical difference that you don't have to agree with. The fun thing about decentralized protocols is that you can go elsewhere where you don't have to whine. Merkle stands to lose – I support the decision to keep it closed, and think that it will create a better ecosystem in the long run.

I'm not whining. I am entitled to make any criticism and request anything I wish, especially when my position is that is hypocritical to say Farcaster is decentralized if Warpcast and Faracster are developed by the same team, and Warpcast has a huge list of centralized features outside of the Faracster protocol. Saying that someone whines, because you don't like what you see is the real whine. I mean you said it yourself that I don't have to agree, so why call it a whine then? Isn't that contradicting yourself? Mentioning that someone is free to leave, is a classic sign that you're annoyed about what I am stating, what I am supposed to think next is that I am imprisoned? I can throw that back at you, you can also leave if you're so annoyed, you even have block functionality and even the centralized mute thanks to WC. The fact that you believe people who request open-sourcing of a client that drives most of the traffic of the supposedly decentralized protocol is a whine says a lot.

"I'm not whining, you're whining." 🤣 If you don't like the word, substitute "complain". They're synonyms. You've walked into a restaurant and complained that they're not serving food the same way as other restaurants you've visited. Mentioning that someone is free to leave isn't a classic sign of annoyance. It's stating an obvious truth. I love innovation in all its forms as well as builders, and they're free to build as they choose. As are you. This isn't rocket science.

There's a big difference between making valid criticism and complaining or whining. I didn't say I complained, you're just putting words in my mouth. If we're at the: "state the obvious chapter", I already said I am entitled to make any criticism I want, especially because of what I see as hypocrisy, points which you mostly avoided. If you say mentioning leaving is not a sign of annoyance, maybe? Who knows it's subjective, but most people I know don't use whine, and mentioning leaving if they aren't annoyed, but I accept that you might be different, and I read that wrong.

Complainers don't usually say "hey I'm complaining". They just complain. Why would I leave a platform where I'm philosophically aligned and supportive of how they're building said platform? If I were truly annoyed I would use the features you correctly point out: block & mute. I'm not there yet. I'm not afraid of discussion on the internet. I've made my points and you've made yours and we disagree and that's just fine by me.

I am still building today on farcaster, I was building an indexer before hubs existed. Like you say if you want to label me as a "complainer", I have no issue with that, even though I stated that the criticism I offer I am not seeing it as complaining. I offered criticisms about not having long casts now we have long casts. I offered criticism that the power badge creates an unfair system now it's gone ( at least on UI - because Warpcast is not an open source we can't check) I offered criticism that having main and recent channels is a poor UX that will go too. The point stands that the Merkel team has too much power to abuse, and I'll keep making that criticism. I don't have bags in Faracster, and I'm not directly VC-funded, I only care about a good product for users to use. I care to limit abuse, empower users, and democratize and decentralize control, I don't have any profit incentive like may do around here when hype things without strong foundations, and have a clear conflict of interests.
