Why is nuclear becoming the energy darling when solar is so clearly better? Solar is already proven to work at a variety of scales, has little-to-no downside, and needs to only become more efficient and ubiquitous.

Yeah the most obvious energy solutions the USA is seriously slacking on are a large scale national solar maximization campaign, and a new smart energy grid with a lot of focus on energy storage and localization. Nuclear is interesting too now that the technology is a lot better but the main problem with nuclear is it's not cost efficient without massive subsidies. It's an option where needed but it's not superior to solar.

The problems with nuclear in my mind are plenty: the associated risks, the finite resource problem, scale problems, etc. Don’t get me wrong, I’m pro-nuclear philosophically but practically speaking solar is just so obviously the future.

What risks are you worried about with nuclear?

One of the reasons I wish we would try and learn from and collaborate with China rather than the current cold war BS. They are way ahead on rolling out solar.
