main downside besides increased complexity is worse UX right now we enforce 16 characters for fnames and 16 +.eth for ENS this makes it easy to reason about rendering them and there's just farcaster (not suffix) or ENS seeing DNS would just look bad IMIO

That makes sense, I think you could still get some creative dns that are valid onchain ens names that resolve with the same logic that isn't a .eth today. Having things like .fashion, .world, .live .ai, .fun etc or even if you own those regular tlds used to spell out names or words there are a lot of use cases that don't cause any ux problems that aren't already present by allowing "-" Main downside for me is that it's like $400 USD to mint the DNS names on layer 1 right now 😂
