tldr; WC does some expensive work nightly to re-order your Link store such that additional follows result in LinkRemove messages (e.g. unfollow) getting pruned rather than older LinkAdds (e.g. follows). 

until that happens we block following to prevent data loss

this is a clunky part of the protocol and other solutions are being explored

do remember: your limit will go to 5k next Tuesday at 5pm 

and then I'd recommend purchasing additional storage slots so you aren't bumping up against the limit to avoid this ugliness
