Ask FC: What’s a good first-day project for onboarding a PM? Ex: For engineers, we have them commit a small change into main. It lets us confirm their systems are working, and gives them a win on their first day.

They need to know the product they own inside-out. Onboard them to the product. Then, they should use + play around with the product, file bug reports, if there any + note down questions to ask engineers or product designers later.

It's also very important for PMs to know about current business priorities and processes. Meet each engineer in the team and important stakeholders in a 1:1. This should be spread over a few days.
