What are the most notable instances of leftists being unbanked? ATL Bail Funds comes to mind, WikiLeaks is also relatable too. SciHub is bc it’s geo-restricted but still kinda relevant. Any other good ones?

Can we include sanctions imposed on nations by the US and IMF / World Bank? Cuba, for example, being expelled from IMF. There was a section on debanked leftists in Blockchain Radicals if I remember. I'd have to look back...

It’s my understanding that during the McCarthy era and the Cold War, anyone labelled as a communist, socialist, sympathizer, etc was basically unable to get a bank account, loan, or insurance. McCarthy also made tons of assumptions about who was a communist including gay men and people of colour, immigrants etc, so you can imagine the folks caught in the crossfire who weren’t even on the left.

Jewish peace activists unbanked in Germany last year because they spoke out against government funded g-cide. All too reminiscent of the 1940s where Jewish people were unbanked en masse.
