Maybe it’s the week in Istanbul and reading about early Christian history and the transition from fringe cult to state religion to world force at the ground zero where it all played out, surrounded by the remains of the history… but I’m reading the AI events in a very particular way.

So now that Stanford published Llama (or whatever) and it’s becoming increasingly clear that we can fork other foundation models, can we revisit the conversation about value accrual? IMO the best vertically integrated product will win, trained w RLHF for its specific use case

Serious question… what happens to mobile OS when everything is a web app? And along the way, what tactics will the hardware manufacturers use to deprecate the web experience?

I always wanted to live in SF, then the city deteriorated and I changed my mind. Recently I heard that things were starting to get better but the idea that you couldn’t walk down the street at night is freaky. Living in London I can walk anywhere and feel pretty safe as long as I’m not stupid. Wdyt?

started reading Nexus by Ramez Naam yesterday. read 1/4 of the book in 1.5 hours, definitely down for this type of trashy sci-fi novel

similar patterns exist everywhere - business, sport, music, art, writing - and it’s not a new idea, the ones who take ‘calculated’ risks tend to learn so much faster

there are two types of engineers: those who try to de-risk their build as much as possible and those who make a bet and build something small to test it funnily, the former seem to be better technically. the latter are the ones that make cool shit.

what an awesome provocation. im going to go with a nuanced take and suggest he’ll be incredibly well liked for at least 10yrs but in 20 he may be hated. OpenAI is set up to be the underdog against Big Tech (minus Microsoft) so he can play that card for quite a while
