imo buying an S tier .com for your startup for $1.8m is great if you can afford it

contrarian, wins the battle for attention, can be sold for cash if needed

will not get you to pmf on it's own but it's not as stupid as some people make it to be

buying one on a monthly payment plan like they did is smart.

(buying upfront would not be, because cannot actually be sold for cash easily. domains are illiquid assets, so if u tried to sell eg friend.com quickly you might get much less than you paid)
