Tell me about public blockchain apps that do not involve objective money or objective identity, which require strict global consensus, why they should be built on public blockchains, and why haven't they been built yet? I'll consider writing a post, when I get back to it, to explain why it does or doesn't make sense

I think punks and a handful of the later projects they inspired, like nouns, are interesting social experiments

I count those as leveraging both money and identity - a nice mix though. I'm looking more specifically fpr non-financial apps that have nothing to do with either money or identity

I'd like to see projects more use of the chain for its most basic capability: untamperable, timestamped data distribution. Did you know the NYT has been publishing merkle roots since 1995? https://www.vice.com/en/article/j5nzx4/what-was-the-first-blockchain

For example, I'd love to see an onchain app store. MVP could be a phone (ethOS, maybe?) that auto-updates its local apps from URLs like: ens://daimo.eth/latest.apk Censorship resistance, global consensus, gatekeeper bypass is tremendously useful beyond just money and personal identity

I can see using this for identity, but not much else - something like IPFS should be sufficient for file sharing? But also, realistically, this will be a tiny, tiny niche, especially now that both major platforms allow (or soon will) sideloading of apps, with multiple third party stores already available.

Yes, I'm talking about linking from the chain to IPFS or bittorrent. I dont think this will drive much demand for blockspace since it's efficient: one transaction per app release. But could be v important for the ecosystem. EU forcing Apple to open up helps a lot. Might make this ethStore idea viable.
