From what I read in the past, It's not really an attack on uBlock (but I assume It could be part of it). It's a change from the current manifest format to a more secure one (which is probably a good thing). But uBlock depends on the old manifest and will be pain to upgrade. It's possible the uBlock situation, sped up the time for this action to happen to make them get behind on their youtube block algo (google getting far ahead while they try to upgrade) or just give up.

They transitioning from the older Manifest V2 to the newer Manifest V3 platform. So our old extensions would have to be updated by their developers to meet the new standards or will stop functioning once Google fully phases out support for Manifest V2 So I don’t think it’s what you think, DC They ain’t digging their own grave
