He guest lectured a class I took last year. It was kinda funny, he got a lot of pushback. Lots of genetic counseling/PhD students in the class were a little upset by his arguments & felt that altho precision med has so far failed to live up to the hype, it might actually be on the cusp of realizing its full potential.

They have been saying that for 20yr so that pushback doesnāt do much for me lol For whatever reason we have decided to make this an āeither/orā not a ābothā. Stupid. To me it seems obvious the pendulum has swung too far towards āprecision medā and we are behind on the rest of it

I do think they might actually be right this time (eg CAR-T therapies show real promise), but yeah clearly we need both. It's hard for me to see how funding to study env/social determinants of health will match funding for biomedical research though since pharma cant profit unless there's a drug at the end of the day

Not only is there no profit motive, conclusions may damage profits of existing cos Tabery addresses this in the book too with no real prescription. Depressing
