Feeling heartbroken looking at the pictures and videos of the hurricane aftermath coming out of Asheville and greater WNC The media isn’t covering the damage there because there’s no way to get in or out, nor any cell reception right now I’m not sure how to help from afar but if I figure out how, I’ll let y’all know

I’m ENC and hurricanes have been a way of life, never WNC. Heard from someone in Erwin TN things are ok now but 10 ppl still missing and roads/hospital gone

What I understand so far is that it’s not the hurricane per se that caused this There was a strong rainstorm right before that saturated the land, and when the hurricane reached inland, it couldn’t absorb any more water Still a shock, but shows how the increased climate volatility will create unpredictable effects
