I think it’s also dependant on the size of the org in some way I’ll say I’ve had experience working at a startup and at a mid size company - with its parent company being a very one For the big company it was full of processes and approvals from the department heads followed by conversations with that teams head

We used an external service to track the referrals and it was similar to how an normal interview would happen I was able to track the progress and the interactions they are having easily - but was not awarded anything for making the referrals

The process is also very long drawn and takes upwards of couple of months as well at times

On the flip side at the startup it was pretty free flowing with direct interactions with HR and teams and most of the communication was offline on tools like slack Reward was again not given upfront from an internal referral- but was for an external one Hope this helps, happy to answer any more questions
