What will it take for voting with DIDs to become mainstream? https://x.com/iohk_charles/status/1744511505721073885

Even if something like this happens those DIDs would need to be government-issued/regulated. Which is fine for this purpose specifically. But we are 7 light years away from that I think.

I don't have a great answer to this, but personally think it starts with not marketing DIDs to mainstream user. And just hiding it somewhere in a great product. Maybe something that integrates with PassKeys so verifiable credential issuance can be hidden from the user experience?

we gotta be pestermaxxing on election years like now. with enough hyperstition on mass media, the pressure could force a change that can go in effect in a few years.

I actually think the secret "in" to getting DIDs everywhere is https://spruceid.com/. They work with government agencies to issue digital IDs, which in turn use DIDs etc. Multi-year, extremely complex effort, but I think they are on the right path.
