Hackathons are events where teams of builders have to create a project from scratch in 36-40 hours straight, normally over a weekend. You can win bounties/prizes offered by sponsors (ie Base rewards the best 3 consumer apps). @ethglobal is the most influential in Web3, but hackathons existed for decades also in web2.

Not sure if I ever saw a web2 hackathon Web3 couldβve stolen it completely with amount of money, energy and prizes in them
