What hackathons are currently, mostly aren’t meant. But looking forward, exactly who hackathons need more of and calling shots in the projects. That piggy wallet is a great example, barely any dev, most stuff is hardcoded and the rest barely functioning. Just need to put something on chain to show that metamask pop up for everyone to go wow. And then do it for the cause like for argentinian kids. Present figma prototype as a demo because going through the live app would be horrific. https://piggy-wallet-nextjs.vercel.app

I think it depends on their skill set. Visual designers have a tougher time slotting in than designers with more technical know how and product vision. I’ve learned I have no place in hackathons as a participant since I’m a brand guy. But can provide value as a mentor.

absolutely. good ui/ux is really impressive especially in a short period of time. a designer on a hackathon team is a cheat code

yes. depends on project. for best outcome designer should be the idea guy. otherwise it's hard to integrate design work in an existing product. also, there's little time at hackathons for 'making buttons pretty'

Of course, designers should be on hackathons. They are responsable for the human experience. Any solution or technology that doesn't put humans at the center will fail! Designers are more than graphics; they think everything with the user experience and stakeholders.

hackathon projects usually look bad bc devs focused on functionality but it would be great

It depends on the type of hackathon; usually, those are to get hands-on and build things; if there's time ppl/teams will think about design, but it also depends on the type of designer you are; imagine you have a great idea and you build a prototype maybe only a powerpoint prototype that sells your idea, that can be developed later, that's a big win
